A new paper from the Free Enterprise Group, Tear Down This Wall – Scrapping Trade Barriers, sets out ideas to drive enterprise in Britain and across the globe via the scrapping of trade tariffs.
The UK, via the EU, imposes significant trade tariffs on imports from some of the poorest countries in the world. In many cases, these tariffs are a major inhibitor to the economic development of countries which could, and should, be economically self-sufficient. It would be to the economic benefit of developing countries for these trade barriers to be removed. There is a strong philanthropic arguments for doing so but there are equally strong pragmatic arguments.
James Cleverly MP argues that genuinely free trade will benefit both the developed and developing world and should be a policy goal for Britain, and other developed nations, with explicit milestones for delivery.
